Country Lane Shoes offers variety of merchandise

What started out as a small-scale business that Amos Graber operated from his basement has grown into a full-fledged shoe store and more.

Graber said he decided to open a store when he discovered there were not any shops that catered to the Amish community in his area.

“In 2010 there were not any local stores that sold shoes to the Amish community, so I set up a small shoe business in my basement. Sometime around 2014 I decided to open Country Lane Shoes and offer a variety of merchandise to the general public,” Graber said.

Country Lane Shoes is located at 125 Hillside Drive in Fleming County.

“We are off the main road, and the best way to explain how to get here is, we are halfway between Flemingsburg and Tollsboro on highway 57. Watch for the Red Wing sign to know where to turn,” Graber explained.

The store offers a variety of name brand shoes and boots, brooms, shovels, socks and gloves as well as custom made leather belts, name plates can be ordered upon request.

While Graber handcrafts most of the leather belts and harnesses, he said, “some of the leather items he carries are made by the Amish in Holmes County Ohio.”

In addition to boots and shoes the store also has a tack shop that offers custom made leather items such as harnesses, bridles, curry sets, and other horse tack.

Graber said he keeps up with the changing styles and the needs of his customers and periodically adds different merchandise to the store.

Perhaps there is someone on your Christmas list that would love to have a new leather belt, or a custom-made bridle set this year.

A visit to Country Lane Shoes could help you fill some of those items on your list this Christmas.

Business hours for the store are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.; 8 a.m. until noon on Saturday; closed Thursday and Sunday.
