Bees aid family in making homemade commodities
At right, Byron demonstrates the construction of how he makes his own bee hives.
Byron and Sharon Mabry, owners of Jubilee Fields, sell bees, honey, supplies and cosmetics.
“Back to bees and homemade commodities” is more than a business-slogan for the Mabry family, who live on a small farm on Cassidy Pike in south central Fleming County; it’s a passion and lifestyle they have embraced for several years.
“We try to put our beeswax in every product we make,” Sharon said. “The pollination process and what bees do to help plants, it’s amazing.” Byron added.
What is equally amazing are the wonderful products the Mabrys create with help from the bees.
Five years ago, Sharon’s father surprised her with a beehive.
“I’ve always been fascinated with bees,” she said. “Some people are afraid of bees but bees are defensive and not aggressive.”
Jubilee Fields has a wide variety of fragrances and something for everyone.
“I started making lip balm and my friends loved it. So we went from there and started making hand and body creams, sugar scrubs, soaps, jellies and jams, the possibilities are endless, we also have beard oil and beard balm for the guys.”
The Mabrys have been living in Fleming County for six years and have created a working farm they enjoy with their ten-month-son, Ian.
They are embracing what Mother Nature has to offer.
“We want to get back to natural, and want to help educate people on the benefits of pollination. We are in the process of starting classes to help people learn more.”
The Mabrys have 26 handmade working bee hives and are looking to expand and will even rent bees.
“We will rent bees to help pollinate gardens,” Sharon said.
When not working on the farm they enjoy sitting out near the hives and taking in the beauty of the bees and what they have to offer.
You can purchase Jubilee fields products at The Picket Fence in Flemingsburg, Hair Expression in Morehead, A&N Customs in Hillsboro and The Bath and Fleming County Farmer’s Market every Saturday and Tuesday.

Jubilee Fields lip balm is a fan favorite and is a product that started the business.
After a long day working on their farm, the Mabrys enjoy spending time outside and watching the beehives.
