Fleming Fair to take place at Industrial Park July 10-15

Summertime, means fair time, and the new board members of the Fleming Fair hopes everyone will come out and enjoy a week of fun entertainment the week of July 10 through the 15.

Fairgrounds will be open from 5-11 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Although a few changes have been made, such as an entirely new fair board, the most notable change has been the location for the Fleming Fair.

In previous years, the Fleming Fair has been held at the Double S Entertainment Center but this year board members decided to move the event to the Fleming County Industrial Park, at 150 Recreation Park Road in Flemingsburg.

Arm bands will be 10 dollars per person at the gate and includes the cost of rides.

Fair president, Amanda Maynard would like to dispel the rumor that this year’s fair has been cancelled.

“Despite the rumors going around, there is going to be a fair this year. The official dates are July 10-15,” Maynard said.

Maynard said, each of the new board members, vice president, Geneva Helphenstine, treasurer Duane Lowe, secretary, Rita Story, livestock superintendent, Charlie Hunt and horse show manager Ashley Frye have worked hard to keep the tradition of a local, hometown fair in Fleming County.

Chair members for the livestock show are Jimmy Jett, goat; Jennifer Hickerson, dairy; Taylor Schwartz lamb; and Jacob Fryman, beef and Donna Fryman, Floral Hall supervisor.

Along with carnival rides and fair foods, a variety of fun entertainment will be offered for all who attend.

“This year’s events include pageants, a talent, livestock and horse shows, a Cruise-In, live band’s, food vendors, a corn hole tournament, 3 on 3 basketball tournament, floral hall, and a bigger carnival,” Maynard said.

For many, the pageants are one of the favorite events of a small-town fair and while the traditional categories remain the same, co-director of Sparkling Divas and Dudes Pageants, Stephanie Willoughby said there has been one significant change.

“There have been a few changes for this year’s pageant. We decided to semi close the pageants to keep all our winners close to home for community events. In the past we have had our winners be from up to five hours away, so having them return for community events such as the firecracker festival, the Christmas parade, or even Little League day was nearly impossible”, Willoughby explained. “We have also brought back Mr. Fleming fair. This is a fun pageant for the men in the county to get on stage and have some fun! For our 3 and four-year-old beauties and handsome guys, we have also added Tiny Miss and Tiny Mister Fleming Fair as well,” Willoughby said.
