Jerry Thatcher was a longtime community leader, Patriot Guard rider and Bath County educator for more than 30 years.
Family and officials gathered in Owingsville to unveil the signs that will forever mark U.S. 60 in his honor - as they said, it will be a constant reminder to all to follow in his footsteps and always try to make our community a better place.
The highway is now named the Jerry Thatcher Memorial Highway between the Owingsville and Crossroads Elementary schools.
“It was an honor to be with Representative Rocky Adkins and the Jerry Thatcher family to unveil the new road sign designating the section of U.S. 60 from the Owingsville Elementary School to Crossroads Elementary School as the “Jerry Thatcher Memorial Highway.”
Jerry was an inspirational community member and educator whose love and dedication to the youth of our community cannot be adequately expressed. This was just one small way the community could express its appreciation for the care and inspiration Jerry provided to our children for 34 years. May God bless the Thatcher family,” said Owingsville Mayor Gary Hunt.
