It’s high time for a tea party in Carlisle and just in time to make your mom feel extra special.
A Mother’s Day Tea is set to take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday May 13 at the historic Mozart Hall in the Neal Welcome Center at 108 West Main St. in Carlisle.
Sponsored by the Carlisle-Nicholas County Tourism Society this event promises to be a delightful experience.
Tourism committee members Gladys Shrout, Bonnie Metcalf, Michelle McDonald and Martha Taylor, will assist with the preparations and serving.
“We are very excited about the tea. This is actually a first for us, we have never held a Mother’s Day tea. We host a Christmas Tea at the Old Jailers House each year but this is a special event that will take place in the historic Mozart Hall”, Gladys said. “What makes this one so special is we will also be honoring one of our beloved citizens, Nell Wilson Poline, who was the 1953 Mountain Laurel Queen”, Gladys said. “Those who attend will be able to view some of Nell’s personal belongings like her piano, cheer leading sweater, scrapbooks, photographs and the beautiful dress she wore when she was crowned queen. Former Mountain Laurel President Ernie Trosper will be our guest speaker and Jerry Johnson will play a few songs on Nell’s Baldwin piano”, Gladys said.
Tickets are $20 each, and a reservation is required to attend.
“Twenty Dollars is a great price for all that you get”, Gladys said. “Scones, and crumpets and flavored teas, that’s what a tea is, but with all that will be served you wont go away feeling hungry. In addition to the sweet and savory treats, our guest will also enjoy a live performance of piano music and get to know more about one of our towns most beloved citizens”, Gladys added, then went on to say, “Why not plan a day trip and visit some of our historic gems like the Old Jailers Home, the Passenger Depot or the Kentucky Doll Museum” and walk through the Neal Center’s history museum, while you are in town for the Mother’s Day Tea”.
Take a break from your fast-paced day and make reservations to attend an afternoon tea; a leisurely luxury, steeped in tradition.
