Jeff Gulley Memorial Rod Run & Swap Meet set for June 10

The first annual Jeff Gulley Memorial Rod Run and Swap Meet is set to take place

Saturday, June 10, at the Old City Park in Flemingsburg.

Jeff passed away in January this year of a sudden heart attack and his brothers, Joe and Doug, wanted to find a way that would allow them to honor his life-long love for anything with wheels and his idea that a college education is very important.

“Jeff, was a big car guy, he loved rod runs and car shows, so my brother and I thought it would a great way to celebrate his life and to start a scholarship fund in his name for a Fleming County student who plans to go into anything automotive related such as auto-body and welding. Jeff didn’t go to college, he chose to join the Navy, so he was really really, proud that all of his children were able to further their education and get their degrees. We wanted to have something that will help us continue Jeff’s legacy, his love for people, cars and the importance of a college education,” Joe said.

The Swap Meet will run from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Food sales will begin at 11 a.m. and last all day. Entertainment, provided by DJ The Iceman, will begin at noon and last until 9 p.m.

The Rod Run will take place from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. and participants can register any time that day.

Although there are no registration fees for the Rod Run, donations are welcome.

Dash plaques will be awarded to the first 100 entries, and there will be food, games, vendors and door prizes.

“We are asking anyone who would like to set up as a vendor to offer items that are auto related, such as tools, signs, tee shirts, car and truck collectibles, etc. We will have a concession stand to sell hot dogs and hamburgers and tee-shirts that will have the Jeff Gulley Memorial logo on the front and back as part of our scholarship fund raiser,” Joe said.

“The grand prize giveaway for registered participants, a Cropper 355 motor, will be provided by the event’s platinum sponsor, Cropper Automotive and Race Engines of Flemingsburg. The winner must be present to claim the prize,” he said.

Jeff added that there will be “other games and prizes given away for those in attendance throughout the days event.”

To help make the Rod Run even more fun, every 20 minutes or so, each registered vehicle owner will take an old fashion cruise through town to the Dairy Queen and circle back to the park.

The family of Jeff Gulley will host the non-profit event for the next five years.

“In the future, the event will be held on the second Saturday in June, rain or shine. Anything that has a motor is welcome—any year or model of cars, trucks, motorcycles and tractors.

“It’s not just about the cars. It’s also about how important education was to Jeff. He knew the importance of education and he made sure that his children understood how important it was to go to college. He was proud of them for going to college and getting their degrees,” Joe said. “The Rod Run will help make sure that other kids are able to continue their education in the same way.”

For more information or questions you can contact, Joe Dunaway Jr. (606-748-8778) or Doug Gulley (606-748-1276).

Joe said that he and his family hope that the Rod Run and Swap Meet will be something fun for the community to attend and would like to invite everyone to come out and join in the celebration of life of a man who loved family, friends, cars and fellowship.
