Nicholas County Museum receives wide variety tool collection
Hard work is not always fun; however, we won’t realize how easy we have it until we see the tools people had to perform simple tasks in the past. Thanks to a donation from Jerry Galbraith, we can now do just that.
This large tool collection includes animal skinners, heavy clothing irons, and a wide variety of additional tools.
With the use of today’s electric drills, making a hole in a piece of wood is a simple and fast process. This tool collection reminds us that things haven’t always been so easy with a heavy drill that had to be cranked by hand.
Do you think it’s a nuisance to make a trip to the grocery store when you’re running out of butter? Going to Save a Lot seems pretty nice when you examine the large butter churn from this collection.
Come by the museum and take a peek at what hard work used to look like with Jerry Galbraith’s tool collection. Do you remember using tools like these? We would love to hear your stories – stop by and let us know if any of these tools look familiar to you.
The Nicholas County Historical Museum has been chosen to represent the Smithsonian’s Hometown Teams exhibit this July. This exhibit will include items from Smithsonian’s presentation along with displays from our museum. Can you help us make this event a success by donating your Nicholas County sports-related memorabilia? We would be happy to take your items on loan until the end of the event or, if you want to make a donation, we can find a forever home for your memorabilia within the museum. If you have no sports related items to include, we also welcome volunteers willing to give their time to help the museum.
