Cross Country Boys and Girls headed to KHSAA State Meet

Girls: Henderson-H Bussell-Staviski-Oldfield-J Bussell-Riddle-Whitt

Boys: Williams-Overholser-Vincent-Begley-Whitten-Bowen-Purvis

The Girls and Boys Cross Country teams are headed to the KHSAA State Cross Country Meet after qualifying during the Region 6AA Championship at Boyd County. A new rule change this year allowed the teams to know just where they had to finish to qualify as a team and the athletes responded well.

In the girls race Carrie Staviski finished 4th in a time of 20:33.14 to be named 1st Team All-Region 6AA. Staviski, a junior, will be competing in her fifth KHSAA Cross Country Championship. Sophomore Abby Henderson running her first Regional was also named 1st Team All-Region 6AA and finishing with a Personal Record crossing the line at 20:43.93 in 5th place. Hannah Bussell is completing her Senior year with her first Cross Country Championship. She finished 22nd in a time of 23:04.09. “I am so excited I want to cry” said Bussell. Junior Kristin Riddle running the course for the first time and earning her first trip to State finished 33rd at 25:55.52. Amelia Oldfield an 8th grader finished at 25:10.98 to place 34th. Freshman Caroline Whitt in her first Region and upcoming State meet finished 41t at 26:23.06. Another 8th grader Jaycie Bussell, running her first Region meet, finished 49th at 28:58.81 to join her sister at her initial State meet. Alternates include Isabella Copher, Makayla Blackburn and Cristina Oney.

In the Boys race Sophomore Caleb Bowen finished 9th in a time of 18:04.71. He was named 2nd Team All-Region 6AA and will be making second KHSAA State Championship. James Overholser, a sophomore, is making his first State meet and finished 17th at 18:35.00. Senior Dakota Begley placed 19th finishing at 18:54.43 and will be competing in his first Cross Country State meet. “We ran great and we finished ahead of Rowan” Begley said. Junior Bryce Williams finished 30th crossing the line at 20:05.91 in Personal Record fashion. Cameron Vincent also a Junior set a Personal Record finishing it a time of 20:26.87 placing 34th. Senior Tanner Whitten placed 40th finishing at 21:03.43. Taylor Purvis, after giving up his Region spot last year, ran his first in a time of 22:48.68 to place 46th. Williams, Vincent, Whitten and Purvis all ran their first Regional meet and are making their first State appearance. Alternates include Zack Martin, Blake Anderson and Rodney Crouch.

The State meet is Saturday November 5th at the Kentucky Horse Park; The boys will race first at 11:30am from box 12 with the girls starting at 12:15pm from box 9.
