Nicholas County Museum receives antique pump organ
Last week the Nicholas County Historical Society Museum welcomed a new piece from the past.
Thanks to Gene Kelly, the museum is now the home of a beautiful antique Kimball pump organ.
The Kimball Piano and Organ Company was established in 1857 by William Wallace Kimball.
First located in Chicago, Illinois, the Kimball Company started out by providing customers with high-quality organs and then expanded to include pianos.
The company began producing organs in 1881 and continued to distribute these musical instruments until 1922.
The Kimball Company truly knew how to make pieces that would last, as our pump organ dates back to 1895 but is still in fantastic working condition.
The beautiful exterior is complete with intricate designs, smooth keys, a glossy finish, and a large mirror.
Best of all, the pump organ still bellows out beautiful music when touched by the right hands, and plays like brand-new.
Do you have a yen to see this musical piece from so long ago?
If so, feel free to stop by the museum and visit the organ yourself.
If you ask Jerry Johnson, he may be willing to share some of his talents and provide you with an earful of music from the past!
The organ is on display at the museum from noon to 3 p.m. on Monday through Wednesday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday.
How can you help to preserve the past of Nicholas County?
The museum is currently accepting donations and would be thrilled to provide your antiques with a place where they can be enjoyed by the entire county.
We also have openings for volunteers; even if you have no historical knowledge, we would be glad to welcome you to our team.
Together, we can work to keep Nicholas County’s past alive!
