Richardson Funeral Home, located at 121 East Main, in Owingsville, Kentucky has been a family-owned and operated business for the past 30 years.
To celebrate their mile stone, the Richardson family and staff will host a customer appreciation day Saturday, Sept. 17, with light refreshments and entertainment.
Paul Richardson, who has co-owned the business in its current location, since 1986, said the Richardson family has actually been in the funeral home business for more than 50 years.
“It originally began in the 1950s with my uncle Randolph Richardson in another building on Main Street known as Richardson, Dicken and Dotson Funeral Home, then later moved to Slate Avenue where it became Richardson Funeral Home. Randolph was a licensed funeral director and embalmer at that location for many years until he sold out to a partner in the early 1980s,” Paul said.
In 1986, Randolph’s brother, Parley bought what was known then as the Keal, Bromagen and Gray Funeral home at 121 East Main and Randolph helped his nephews Paul and Brent start a new Richardson Funeral Home in its current location.
The historic home, built in 1869, was remodeled through the years after the Richardson’s purchased the building. Since being renovated the building is completely handicap accessible, includes a new chapel, display room, offices, lounge and a grand hallway.
“Richardson Funeral Home has been serving our community for going on 30 years. We are Owingsville’s only locally owned and operated funeral home and when you come here we make you part of our family,” Ginny Richardson said. “We are here to help you step by step, create a personalized memorial for your loved one which allows you the necessary closure. Our team of professionals are here for you every step of the way from the simplest request to the most important of tasks. We offer caring compassionate services and promise to continue the tradition of excellent service which was passed on to us from each generation of the Richardson family. The funeral home is constantly evolving and improving; building on what started as Randolph’s dream so many years ago,” Ginny added.
Randolph Richardson passed away in March of 2003, but his legacy lives on at the Richardson Funeral Home.
To help celebrate the event, special guest River’s Edge and God Sent will perform live gospel music and Preacher Bill Holeman will entertain the crowd with his beloved sidekicks, Henry and Homer during customer appreciation day.
The music will start at 2 p.m. and the “dummies” will join preacher Bill at 4:30 p.m.
Cake and yogurt from Chickabiddy will be served during the days event.
The Richardson family would like to invite the public to come out for some live gospel music, fun entertainment and light refreshments.
