Chamber honors local heroes with luncheon
The Fleming County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and staff held a luncheon to honor the memory of all those who perished on or as a result of the tragedy of 9-11-2001 and to recognize Flemingsburg and Fleming County’s very own First Responders.
“It was truly a beautiful day for showing our appreciation to our ‘everyday heroes’,” chamber director Crystal Ruark said.
A lunch prepared by the chamber directors was followed by a special program that began with a moment of silence in remembrance of the lives lost on that horrific day.
The Fleming County High School Choir then sang the National Anthem, America the Beautiful and We Hold These Truths for those in attendance. Under the direction of Shelia Marshall Lamb this group of talented students did a wonderful job.
The chamber then took the opportunity to recognize and thank members from each Volunteer Fire Department in Fleming County, Fleming County Dispatch, Fleming County EMS, Flemingsburg Police Dept, Fleming County Sheriff’s Office and the Kentucky State Police.
Mayor Voiers, State Rep. Mike Denham and Senator Steve West each spoke offering words of appreciation to all of our communities First Responders.
All those recognized received a proclamation from State Rep. Denham. Ika France with the Tilton Volunteer Fire Dept spoke briefly about the piece of metal from one of the Twin Towers that was on display during the program.
The Chamber directors and staff would like to add that “words alone can not say thank you enough to all those who give unselfishly of themselves to protect and serve communities. May God watch over and protect each of you. Thank you again for all you do for Fleming County. You are sincerely appreciated”.
