Art show highlights student talent

An art show was held at the Gallery Z in Carlisle last weekend for Nicholas County students that participated in the free summer art program at the Gallery.

Ten students completed a number of projects that included a treasure box, a banner, a rainbow painting and a pencil drawing.

Grace Watson, who will be in the fifth grade at Nicholas County elementary has attended classes for the past five years.

This year Grace’s brother Jason, who will be in the second grade, decided to join his sister for a chance to test his own art skills.

The classes were taught by Gallery owner and artist Louise Zachery.

“The rainbow exercise this year gave the students the opportunity to learn about the color wheel. For their banners they mixed different primary colors to make the colors they used for their letters. It’s always a fun event I look forward to as much as the kids do. Some of the students have been attending classes for ten years and we always get new students each year”, Zachary said.

The Courthouse Square Art Guild in Carlisle sponsors the program and money for the students art supplies is raised from the Guilds annual dues.

Gallery Z also offers adult art classes in September and January.

The annual show for Art Guild artists from Nicholas County will take place in September during the Saturday In Carlisle Event.
