Sharp Farms Market and Deli opens in Sharpsburg
Country Cookin’ and Southern Hospitality
Small Town Hospitality can be found whether you are enjoying some good old country cookin’ or some front porch sittin’ at Sharpsburgs newest business.
Sharp Farms Market and Deli is a new place to eat and shop in the rural community of Sharpsburg and is located at 4965 Veterans Memorial Highway.
Owned by Phil and his wife Susan Sharp Meehan, the Market offers home-cooked meals in addition to fresh pizza, deli meats, cheeses and general grocery items.
The business has only been open for a few weeks and has already become the favorite place for local citizens and farmers to stop in for some country cookin’.
Regulars Billy and Chloe Ann Stewart and Charlie Stephens said they enjoy the daily specials and a chance to visit with friends and neighbors while they, “sit a spell” on the stores front porch.
“Customers love the porch. I think I will eventually have to expand it,” Phil laughed.
Although the business is new, the land on which it sits has been in the Sharp family for over one-hundred years and looks out over a gently rolling country side.
Early morning traveler’s from Mason and Nicholas counties have found the little store to be a welcome sight and stop by to grab a quick bite of breakfast on their way to work.
Employee, Carol Donaldson, starts the day before sun up to prepare fresh homemade biscuits, sausage, eggs and gravy for the breakfast crowd.
Mary Bowls, Cindy Howard and Tabitha Bromagen round out the afternoon crew to help serve up the daily lunch specials and tend to customers through out the busy day.
“Susan and our daughter Lauren, will also join our crew in the near future”, Phil said.
On Mondays the special is Country Fried Steak, mashed potatoes, and green beans;Tuesday; Meat Loaf, fried potatoes, brown beans and boiled cabbage;Wednesday is Chicken and dumplings, mashed potatoes and cole slaw;Thursday, Roast Beef and Gravy, mashed potatoes and creamed peas and on Friday its Catfish, cole slaw and fries.
Anthony Harmon, a local citizen who has lived in Sharpsburg his entire life said Sharp Farms Market and Deli has become his favorite place to eat.
“I eat here just about every day,” Harmon said. “But my favorite day is Friday because they have Catfish that is really good”, he added.
George Riley, also a native of the community, said the new market is a wonderful asset to the town.
“It’s a great addition to our little community. My favorite so far is the Stromboli sandwich,” Riley said.
In addition to breakfast and lunch specials, Sharp Farms Market and Deli also offers, Fresh Pizza, Burgers, Chicken Strips, Chili Dogs, Cod Fish, Stromboli or Tenderloin Sandwiches as well as such appetizers as Mozzerella Cheese Sticks, Fried Mushrooms, and Curly Fries.
Phil, who has owned and operated Tom’s Pizza in the past, and also a farmer, realized that his hometown needed a place for its citizens to have a good home cooked, country-style meal or to stop in for some cold -cuts such as country ham and various types of cheese.
“Our main focus is the restaurant and food service. We feel like this is a good opportunity for the farmers and the community to have a good place stop and eat,” Phil said, then added, “I would love for those who have fresh produce to come out and set up a booth outside to sell their garden goods.”
Sharp Farms Market and Deli also offers delivery at .50 cent per mile up to ten miles.
