Peoples Bank sponsors successful Relay For Life Event

The Bath County Relay For Life Car, Truck and Bike Show was held in downtown Owingsville this past Saturday and was sponsored by Peoples Bank of Kentucky Inc. and the banks employees.

Fifty-three entries were placed in the automotive show, with classic car enthusiasts from Bath and surrounding counties participating.

The theme for this year's Relay For Life events feature super heroes and the Peoples Bank employees Relay Team chose the Teenage Ninja Turtles with the slogan "Cowabunga Cancer."

In addition to the rows of cars, trucks and motorcycles, vendors sold food, t-shirts, and several items were donated for raffle prizes by various local businesses; with all proceeds going to the Relay for Life.

Up and coming local artist Branden Martin and his band Sourmash entertained a crowd with over one-hundred in attendance and lasted well past the scheduled time to great fanfare.

"This is a good turn out, I'm very pleased with the amount of folks who've shown up," said Mayor Gary Hunt. Event participant Carolyn Jones echoed that sentiment and said, "this spot (on South Court Street) is a great one to attract people where everyone can see us this year".

South Court Street quickly filled up with cars on display, so many were parked along Main Street and the motorcycles were lined up in front of the courthouse.

Cancer is a real and personal ordeal for many that attended Saturdays event.

For Jeryl Jones, drummer for Branden Martin & Sourmash, it is very personal.

Jeryl is a cancer survivor himself and never missed a beat during the band's performance.

The Relay For Life is mostly associated with an annual walk and luminary event, but other community events like the car show help raise awareness and funds for the fight against cancer.

This year's Relay For Life main event is scheduled for Aug. 6 at the Courthouse Square in Owingsville and will kick off at at 4 p.m.

There will be survivor events and activities for all ages throughout the evening.
