Church to honor first responders
As the Pleasant Ridge Christian Church in Cowan in Fleming County planned activities for the year, consideration was given to honoring first responders.
“It was the general consensus of the membership,” said pastor Dean Brewer. “We’ve been planning this for a year.”
In today’s world, the contributions of first responders, their dedication to duty and their loyalty to their communities is sometimes taken for granted. Brewer and his congregation want to help change those attitudes just a little.
“We want to honor the first responders from Nicholas and Fleming counties,” Brewer said.
That invitation includes fire department members, EMTs, members of the sheriffs’ offices and city policemen.
The event will take place on Sunday, July 23 at the 11 a.m. morning worship service at the Pleasant Ridge Christian Church. Lunch will follow the service.
The speaker for the day will be Capt. Greg Howard. Howard has spent his career in the field of law enforcement and criminal justice, first working for the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Police Department. After retiring from that position, he worked at the Department of Criminal Justice Training in Richmond for seven years, then was appointed as the commissioner of Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement.
Howard now works for the Fayette County Attorney as a criminal gang enforcement specialist.
All Nicholas County and Fleming County first responders are invited to attend this event. Brewer suggested that those attending come in uniform, hear the encouraging words of Howard and enjoy lunch with his congregation on July 24.
