Elementary drama club performs Annie Jr.
The Owingsville Elementary Drama Club wowed audiences again this past weekend with three performances of Annie Jr.
The children put on a show for their schoolmates Friday and then performed Friday and Saturday nights for the general public.
The productions directed by Drama Club coach Tanya Pratt have developed quite a reputation in the community for top notch performances.
Friday night about 150 were sold, and another 200 Saturday.
Ms. Pratt shared that a number of people who came to the Friday night performance were so impressed, they came back again Saturday.
The students received rave reviews and several comments were made by parents and students alike, that they couldn’t image other students playing the parts, after they performed.
The students in grades second through fifth originally tried out for parts in November where they sang and did readings.
After call backs and cast selection, the children have been practicing three times a week.
Parents helped sew costumes and build the sets, and the club did numerous fund raisers to pay for a new $700 sound system and $500 for the “official” backdrops.
The production was presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International. For that reason, the play could not be recorded. The rights to the play also had to be paid for.
