Barns become most popular place for wedding venues

Valentine’s day is a very popular holiday for couples to get engaged and with spring approaching and recent warm days to remind of us of that, weddings are on the mind of many.

A popular trend in wedding themes of late, are barn weddings and this area has a number of great venues for couples to choose from.

Doris Potter has been hosting weddings at Rosewood acres farm at 209 Airport Road, Mt. Sterling, since 1991. The Potter’s recently remodeled their Old Milk Barn to provide an elegant country setting amidst 140 acres of rolling hills.

The barn was originally built in the 1940s by her husband’s grandfather.

After they quit milking in the 60s the barn remained closed up and used for storage for 24 years. Two years ago they were asked to remodel for a wedding and in the process they discovered several treasures stored there from the grandfathers auctioneer days.

When they took down the wood siding they found where grandfather had kept track of the cows—when they were born, what they were named and when they were sold. They kept a lot of the original charm but updated electric and added a stage.

Besides the grounds and barn they offer coordinated decor and floral design. Port a potty’s, table and chairs are provided and they have another building nearby with a semi industrial kitchen that can also be rented for a caterer. The Bridal Suite includes two rooms and a half bath. The Grooms Suite includes one room and a half bath.

The facility seats 175 guests on antique church pews and chairs. The barn can be decorated for wedding and the reception, or many couples opt to be married outside. The venue rents for $800 for the day and $200 for each additional day.

You can check them out on Facebook at Rosewood Acres Farm or call Doris at 859-404-1606.

In nearby Fleming County you will find Three Silos Barn Weddings. Amy Hinton and Andrew Mitchell host the events and also cater meals for guests from their on-site commercial kitchen and garden. They worked in the catering business for five years before striking out on their own. Dinner options start at $12.50 per plate and range from Fettuccine Alfredo with Fresh Basil and Grilled sliced Chicken, to Bourbon Glazed Boneless Chicken Breasts, to Roasted Pork Loin, Sliced Beef Tenderloin, to Ribeye Steaks. You can check out their entire menu on their website at www.threesilosbarn.com

Their facility features an authentic barn, on site catering, home grown vegetables and flowers, all overlooking the rolling hills of northeastern Kentucky. The barn was built by Amy’s dad in 1966 to house his Holstein milk cows. He stopped milking in 1973 and the barn stood vacant until four years ago. The 40 x 100 hayloft can accommodate up to 200 guests, with room for food, DJ and dancing. Outside receptions can accommodate 300. There are spacious concrete areas outside the barn to host outdoor activities or events. The wedding party gets the barn, tables and chairs and grounds for the entire week to decorate to create just the look they want and there is a downstairs changing area.

Three Silos Barn is located at 4860 Hillsboro Road, Hillsboro. You can find out more at www.threesilosbarn.com or on Facebook or call 606-782-0238.
